About Me

Animal-assisted therapist and physiotherapist

Hi, I'm Perrine. I grew up in Belgium in a family of 5 children and was lucky enough to have a little sister like no other; Audrey was born 3 years after me with Down's Syndrome. Thanks to her, I grew up in a special family and learned to savor every little victory.

I became a physiotherapist in 2015 and specialized in neurological rehabilitation for adults and children. Then I wanted to broaden my field of expertise and bring a little extra touch to my sessions, so I trained in animal-assisted therapy. For two years, I underwent intensive training to be able to accompany you in your development with the help of my four-legged partners. I'm also a member of the  Corporation des zoothérapeutes du Québec (CZQ).

My qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Physiotherapy
  • Animal-assisted therapist and canine behaviorist for 2 years
  • 2 year program in animal-assisted therapy and activities
  • Léopold Busquet's Physiological chains for 2 years
  • 6 month program in caregiving and coaching
  • Michel le Métayer's Motor Evolution Levels
  • Sensory-motor development from birth to first steps

My professional experience

  • Physiotherapist for adults in functional rehabilitation centers for musculoskeletal and neurological systems in Belgium from 2015 to 2019
  • Pediatric physiotherapist in multidisciplinary center for children with cognitive, motor and behavioral challenges from 2019 to 2023
  • Assistant physiotherapist for Expert Physio Plus in 2023
  • Animal-assisted therapy in individual and group sessions for children, adults, seniors and people with special needs since 2020
  • Animal-assisted therapy and activities in collaboration in Montreal and Ottawa in 2023
  • Facilitator at the Expérience Unik respite and animal-assisted therapy center since 2023

I worked in Belgium until 2019 in a functional rehabilitation center for people with polytrauma and neurological damage (paralysis, neuropathy, head trauma, Guillain-barré, polyfractures, post-operative complications). I've been lucky enough to be able to accompany my patients from the moment they are admitted to the center until they return home. On average, hospital stays last from 6 months to 1 year, which has enabled me to grow with them on both a human and physical level. My aim is to help them regain maximum autonomy in their daily lives.

Following this, I worked mainly in the field of pediatrics. In Panama, in a school for children and teenagers with special needs, and as a volunteer for an association aiming to develop recreational and educational activities. In Belgium, as a freelancer and in two multidisciplinary centers: Arcocha and La Manivelle.

In 2020, I trained in animal-assisted therapy via an intensive two-year course. As my trainers are professionals in helping relationships and psychotherapy, I gained more knowledge and skills to also be able to accompany you in your personal and emotional evolution. I also took part in regular coaching sessions to gain a better understanding of myself.

Since arriving in Canada in 2023, I've worked as a physiotherapy assistant for Expert Physio Plus for a few months, before turning more specifically to animal-assisted therapy, where I've had the chance to work with animal-assisted therapists in Montreal and Ottawa. Currently, in addition to my freelance animal-assisted therapy services, I work as an animator at the Expérience Unik respite and animal-assisted therapy center.
